There’s never been a better time to be a jet ski angler. Not only is there growth within the sport, but the competition scene is also now entering its 10th year, a regular favourite has got to be the Racetech Yamaha Jet Ski Fishing Classic. This year’s event in Ponta Do Ouro motivated 127 anglers with 109 skis to cross the border for the four-day event. With these many entrants consistently throughout the years it’s no wonder the competition is considered the biggest jet ski fishing competition in the world.

It was tough going out there for the anglers with many mentioning the presence of a few local men in grey suits who taxed a few for good measure. With that being said, the fish were there. There were some incredible fish caught including a 120kg Black Marlin.
When it comes to a competition like this; however, you do need to work hard for your fish and to be a top angler this is what it is all about. All the competitors had a ball and left with some incredible prizes. There were plenty of lucky draws as well so even the guys who didn’t finish in the top rankings still had chances to walk away with unbelievable prizes.

With four days set aside and only three being competitive days there was also a fun off the day with some very informative clinics held as well as a lazy lunch at Sky Island near Ponta Malongane, and the ever-popular Tug of War.

The overall winner was Byron Kane who was the first winner to defend his title successfully and walk away with the 10th Racetech Yamaha Jet ski fishing classic title for 2019. It is also Byron’s third win at this event, and he has the area well worked out.
