2017 is off to the best possible start as we welcome a racing legend back into the fray. The GP1800 has been reborn this year, powered by Yamaha’s 1.8L, supercharged Super Vortex High Output Marine engine, the most technologically advanced engine ever designed for a personal watercraft. It delivers more power and torque than any engine ever in a Yamaha WaveRunner PWC.

It’s also got the real racing looks to boot. Vibrant colours, blues and reds light up the water while still representing the heart of the Yamaha brand. The GP’s hull design combines tight turning with an edge-to-edge inside lean that is as exciting as it is precise. It features the all-new NanoXcel 2 hull and deck that was engineered with nanotechnology to reduce weight.

What’s been created can only be described as nimble and quick but this is balanced out by the control one feels when manoeuvring. The sponson design has also added comfort and improved two-up and three-up riding. The GP1800 also comes with Yamaha’s RiDE technology, the world’s first dual handlebar throttle control system. It’s easy to operate, pull the right lever to go forward, and the left lever for reverse. Pull them both, or in any combination, and the system reacts with precise control.
The GP series also features a 160mm, 8-vane high-pressure pump in its jet pump propulsion system. It means that a larger capacity and helps create the tremendous power produced by the 1.8-litre super vortex engine. Riders will also love the reboarding step, which is designed to make it easier to reboard after a swim. It conveniently tucks away when not in use.
